A trunnion mount is a heavy adjustable bracket that bolts to a flat surface and lets the fixture tilt up or down after installation. It is commonly used on walls, wood poles, steel brackets, roof structures, signs, yards, loading areas, and smaller parking areas where a slip fitter or arm mount is not the right fit.
Use trunnion mounts when the fixture needs a firm surface mount and precise vertical aiming. For pole-top parking lot fixtures, a slip fitter may be better. For compact accent lights, a smaller knuckle mount may be cleaner. For heavier flood lights, trunnion brackets usually provide more support than a narrow yoke or knuckle.
Trunnion and yoke mounts are similar, but yokes are often narrower and use fewer mounting holes. That can look cleaner on smaller fixtures but may be harder to secure on large flood lights. Trunnion brackets are wider and better suited to heavier fixtures that need a stable mounting footprint.
Slip fitters attach to a round tenon on a pole and are common for parking lots and area lighting. Knuckle mounts thread into a junction box or conduit and are common for smaller flood lights, signs, and landscape accents.

Share mounting surface, fixture height, target area, voltage, and beam angle needs before ordering trunnion mount flood lights.
For parking areas, trunnion flood lights still need a layout check. Foot-candles, pole height, fixture spacing, beam angle, and light trespass decide whether the lot is usable after dark. A wall-mounted flood can work for a small lot beside a building, while a larger open lot may need pole-mounted fixtures with slip fitters or arm mounts.
When replacing older HID lighting, compare retrofit kits with complete LED fixtures. Retrofits can reuse an existing housing when it is sound, but new LED fixtures usually provide better optics, cleaner aiming, lower maintenance, and easier photocell or motion-sensor integration. Choose 4000K or 5000K by visibility, glare, neighborhood setting, and owner preference.
Parking lot flood lights are usually compared by maintained foot-candles, mounting height, pole spacing, fixture distribution, and glare. Urban uncovered parking areas may need a different maintained horizontal and vertical range than suburban lots. Wall-mounted trunnion floodlights can cover drive lanes, truck areas, signs, and entrances, but wide lots may need poles to keep illumination even.
Lumens measure output, while watts measure power use. Luminous efficacy, in lumens per watt, helps compare fixtures, but the beam spread decides where the light goes. Short poles may need closer spacing. Taller poles can cover more area but need better optics. Motion sensors, photocells, warm or neutral color temperatures, and 5000K daylight-white options should be chosen around security, visibility, neighbors, and local code.
A trunnion mount flood light uses a wide adjustable bracket that bolts to a flat surface and lets the fixture tilt after installation. It is common on walls, wood poles, steel brackets, signs, yards, and small parking areas.
Use a trunnion mount for flat surfaces such as walls, beams, roof structures, and side-of-pole brackets. Use a slip fitter when the fixture needs to mount on a round pole tenon.
Yes, especially for smaller lots, building-mounted lighting, and areas beside walls or structures. Larger open lots may need pole-mounted area lights with slip fitters or arms.
Confirm mounting surface, fixture weight, voltage, beam angle, target light level, outdoor rating, controls, and whether the bracket has enough support for the fixture.
